One of the most wonderful bonuses of being a part of Kindle Scout is the amazing authors I've met along the way. The Kindle Scout community is made up of incredibly supportive and encouraging writers, and I'll be spending time with some of these talented individuals here at the Novelists' Nook.
I am so excited to have Kindle Scout winning author Michelle Hughes here as my guest today! Whether you love cowboys or vampires, Michelle has you covered. Cowboy Sanctuary will make your heart gallop, and vampires, in my humble opinion, don't get any hotter than the ones you'll meet in her Tears Of Crimson series. Check them out! You won't be sorry you did.
Michelle has graciously agreed to participate in a Q&A game I call "Playing Favorites".
Thanks so much for having me today, Lisa. It’s such a pleasure to be here!
I'm thrilled you could join me. I'm reading Immortal Embrace, and it's fabulous! I know your fans are eager to get to learn more about you, so let's get started. :)
What is your favorite place to write?
I’m a little old school and prefer writing on my desktop. I’ve never been able to master the art of typing on a laptop. My view out the bay window shows off the beautiful mountains in Alabama and there’s always hummingbirds and other nature giving me inspiration.
Who is your favorite literary character?
That’s a tough one. I fell in love with reading as a young girl sneaking Harlequin romances from my grandmother’s stash. So instead of a favorite character, I think it was the pirates, rogues, and dashing alpha males stealing a young virtuous woman’s heart and riding off into the sunset with her. I’ve kept that scenario in my books to some point. I love the idea of first love and romance so it’s a theme in all my work.
What is your favorite way to spend a weekend?
I still have young kids at home, as well as three that are grown, so family time is always part of my weekend. I’m lucky enough that even my older kids are usually back home on the weekends, and we cook out even in the winter, because I live in Alabama. There are only a few months of the year we can’t be outside for a long time. We love to fish, go swimming, and also enjoy four wheelers.
What is your breakfast indulgence?
Does decaffeinated coffee count as an indulgence? I’m not a big breakfast person even though I know it’s the most important meal of the day. I usually force myself to eat a bowl of oatmeal with raisins.
Who is your favorite cartoon character?
I’m a SpongeBob fan. He makes me laugh. I think we have every rerun on DVR because my kids love him too. My other favorites are Stan from American Dad, and any old Looney Tune cartoons.
What is your favorite day of the year?
Wow. That’s a tough one to answer. I have five beautiful children so there are five incredible days of the year I love. I was blessed with a beautiful family who mean more to me than the air I breathe. Every chance I get to celebrate them I do. I couldn’t imagine a life without them.
How do you find art for your covers?
I met an incredible lady online, Rachel Mizer, and she runs a company called Shoutlines Designs. We became friends on Facebook before I hired her for projects, but the moment I did, I knew we were a perfect fit. I usually find my character models before I write the book because I like to focus on their appearance to make it meld with the book. Jimmy Thomas is one of my favorite male models, and you’ll see him on a few of my covers. On the first Tears of Crimson cover, my beautiful cousin Candace appears on a cover with Jimmy. It will always be my favorite cover.
I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Thomas, too! His images truly capture the spirit of romance. You have great taste!
